Days of the Week/Les Jours de la Semaine

In France, the week starts on Monday and ends on Sunday. I think because in Genesis it says that God created the earth in six days and rested on the seventh. Also, of each word for the day, the first letter is not capitalized.
Here is rundown of the days:

lundi (Monday): Is the first day of the week and is named for the Moon (la lune)

mardi (Tuesday): Second day of the week and is named for the planet Mars (Mars)

mercredi (Wednesday): Third day of the week and is named for the planet Mercury (Mercure)

jeudi (Thursday): Fourth day and named for the planet Jupiter (Jupiter)

vendredi (Friday): Fifth day and named for the planet Venus (Vénus)

samedi (Saturday): Sixth day and named for the planet Saturn (Saturne)

dimanche (Sunday): Seventh day and named for God (Dieu)

  1. Wonderful, thanks!

Monday is a favourite day and I was born on a Monday
morning and I am always entranced by the beauty of
the Moon which shines down on earth so serenely and
    beautifully. Magical!

    Interesting about Sunday, also.

I wonder which day of the week Louis XIV was born. I will have to find out. Best wishes
