French Style Macaroni and Cheese

Quick, easy and can be part of a meal or enjoy with a salad and a glass of wine.

What you need:

1lb. box of any style pasta cooked according to package directions
1/2 lb. cooked bacon, ham (cured ham like prosciutto works great) or leftover pork
1 package of grated Swiss Cheese

What you do with all this goodness:

Take an oven proof casserole dish and fill it with about half of the cooked pasta
Add the meat and about 1/2 of the cheese
Add the remaining pasta
Sprinkle the rest of the cheese on top and a little bit of butter here and there

Put under the broiler until the cheese is well melted and shows some color.

Enjoy!
Serves about 4-6

The cooked bacon, ham or whatever is optional. It's ok to dump all the pasta in the dish, add the grated swiss cheese and little chunks of butter and then put the whole thing under the broiler. The key is to let the cheese get crispy brown without burning the whole thing. In another words, once it's under the broiler, keep an eye on it but don't take it out too soon (the cheese has to grill a bit).

  1. Most of the time, we actually don't use Swiss cheese but Dutch cheese :)

PS: Your blog is really nice, there is a lot of interesting information.

  2. Thanks! What kind of Dutch cheese you use? We like the Swiss because it's pure goodness when grilled with butter in close proximity.
